FZY Krakow and Auschwitz Trip - Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd May 2010

The cost of the trip will be approximately £220 per person [not including flights] for 2 sharing a room in good 3 star Eden kosher hotel, Kazimierz www.hoteleden.pl heart of Jewish Krakow includes all trips, coaches, guides, donations, museum entries, Friday night kosher meal and FZY party at the Galicia museum. Single room cost approx £250 not including flights which should be booked ASAP before prices increase.

May flight prices vary dependent on when you book [approx £79] with RYANAIR as follows:
Friday 21st May Flight No 2432 leaving 6.15am Stanstead Arrives Krakow 9.35am
Returning Sunday 23rd May Krakow to Stanstead Flight No 2437 leaves at 21.50 lands at 23.20

TRIP AGENDA AS FOLLOWS:-
Friday 21st May – On arrival straight to Auschwitz-Birkenau from Krakow airport - If flight on time we should be at Auschwitz museum by 11am where we will spend approximately 1.5 hours there with audio headphones guided tour. We will then return to coach for short trip to Birkenau where we will spend an additional 2 hours. We will conclude with Minchah & Kinnah for the victims of the Shoah and a memorial prayer for the Martyrs concluded by shofar [bring memorial candles] at the end of the railway track in Birkenau [1 kilometre from entrance] where the crematoriums were. For those that can walk fast we will also visit the sauna [de-robbing room now turned into a museum where hundreds of family photographs were found under barracks. Following Auschwitz-Birkenau we will coach to short drive to museum and Holocaust Centre in the nearby town of Oswiecim [see their interesting website on www.ajcf.org] with reconstructed Synagogue and relaxing in their conference room where we will watch a holocaust related film and drink a L’chaim. This was a typical stehtl town in this former Galicia region where a lot of us can trace our ancestry where Jews lived for 700 years before the shoah.

Shabbos 22nd May - Shabbos in Krakow – 9am Synagogue service at the Remuh shule
2pm From the Eden Hotel - Afternoon guided walk of Jewish Krakow Kazimierz district.
When our group has a 2.5 hour walking tour of the Jewish quarter Kazimierz, including Szeroka
Square - visiting museums, 7 shuls and cemeteries. The tour incorporates the newly rebuilt Kupa,
Remuh, Temple and Isaac High Popper & Temple Synagouges and is entitled in the footsteps of
the Balaban which will show you ‘HOW JEWS LIVED in Krakow for over 700 years’ and why
it was called the ‘Galician Jerusalem’. This is our final stop will be at the Galician Jewish Museum  
see website www.galiciajewishmuseum.org that gives a contemporary look at the Jewish
past of Poland with a photographic tribute to the Jews of Galicia concentrating at preserving
that memory. Talk and discussion to follow at museum.
8.30pm F Z Y party evening celebrating 100 years with diner and Klezmer concert.
 
Sunday 23rd May 2010 – Final day
9.30am Morning walk to main town square visiting Wawel castle University area and main town square with free time to browse and sit in the biggest and grandest medieval square in Europe.
Essential to check out hotel depositing suitcase on coach that leaves at 3pm
3pm On coach for Part 2 of Jewish Krakow tour. We also cross Wisla river to wartime ghetto
visiting heroes square Chemist under eagle museum and Shindlers factory and wartime Ghetto
area. We will also visit the notorious Plashov camp for additional prayer service [bring memorial
candles] by sole surviving matzevah at this concentration camp- site. The coach will them tour
rest of Krakow if time allows before returning to airport for Evening flight home at 9.50pm
Please confirm once flights booked so we can reserve your hotel room After Flight cost the hotel charges per double with breakfast approx £64 per night single £53 per night to be paid with kosher meals payable to the Eden Hotel once you are there. In addition must be added the cost for coach, guides, donations and museum entries divided by the final numbers on the trip and based on a full coach this will be about £150pp payable to JHTee approximately 5 weeks before trip.
